Untitled No.67

The first painting from my 12th series of abstracts.
This series was conceived as a culmination of all that had gone before, with the two-tone backgrounds of series 10, combined with the background patterns of series 11, as well as the continuing exploration of colour.
For these paintings however, the background patterns are greatly reduced, to not only give a sense of distance, but to suggest “moving on”: a sense of development. These patterns are also reprised in a variety of ways in the foreground, to add an internal continuity.
This first painting in the set utilises bold, mainly primary colours in variations upon a single theme, which, while relatively simple, makes for quite a striking work.
